Measure traffic patterns with a clear reference
A detection model can produce counts and tracks, but their meaning depends on camera coverage, labels and the way observations are aggregated.
Define each event
Specify when a vehicle or movement is counted and how duplicates are handled. Keep the definition consistent across sites and review samples manually.
Inspect difficult views
Occlusion, glare, darkness and changing conditions can reduce usable observations. Mark gaps rather than silently treating missing data as zero traffic.
Report limitations
Compare against an independent reference and break results down by condition. A pattern in recorded traffic does not establish why it occurred or predict its response to a policy change.
